Mayfield Garden near Oberon began to take shape in the mid-1990′s and today is one of the world’s largest privately owned cool climate gardens.

Mayfield Garden extends across more than 160 acres (64H) and sits within a 5,000acre working farm. Numerous follies and features are blended into the landscape.

Mayfield Garden contains two distinct gardens – the Water Garden and the Private Garden.
The Water Garden is a stone and water feature garden which has been specially designed to open year-round as a tourist destination, and extends across 6acres on the North Eastern edge of Mayfield Garden. Features of the Water Garden include hewn blue-stone lined paths, a copper tree fountain, painted red bridge, blue-stone bridge, steel and stone wisteria arbour, cascades, mass plantings of Hydrangeas, Azaleas, Rhododendrons and more. The Water Garden is open to visitors to enjoy throughout the year (some closed dates apply - see our website).
The Private Garden is a private family garden area at Mayfield Garden which extends beyond the Water Garden, covering well over 130acres. The Private Garden includes follies and features such as the walled kitchen garden, aviary, Islamic-style reflection pond, sunken parterre, croquet court, landscaped amphitheatre, 80 metre cascade with temple source, creek gardens, chicken coops and cut flower garden and many more. The Private Garden is open to visitors for open day events twice a year – known as Private Garden Spring Open Days and Private Garden Autumn Days.
